New Phoenix Suns general manager, Steve Kerr, has an arduous task ahead: to shave off some dollars from their huge salary and luxury tax problem. The number one candidate and the guy who has been the talk of some trade deals is versatile forward Shawn Marion.

Marion has popped up in some rumors that he might wear a Celtics or a Hawks uniform by the start of next season. But that is highly unlikely right now since both Boston and Atlanta would not want to trade their first round picks for nothing. The Matrix may not resign in either team when he opts out of his contract at the end of the season. He is reported to be earning over 16 million and 17 million within the next two seasons.

Another important scenario to consider involves Kevin Garnett. Minnesota is reportedly shopping for a possible trade with Garnett. It is hard to pass up this opportunity if I were Kerr, but the problem is Garnett will be receiving more than 20 million. This will add some more financial nightmare for Phoenix. A frontline of Garnett, Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw will be formidable, and may be the missing ingredient the Suns will need for an NBA trophy.

I personally think that this is may transpire if you throw Marcus Banks and his 21-million-dollar-summer contract into the mix. Banks does not fit Phoenix’s system. But the problem is the Timberwolves may not want Banks and his huge fresh contract back into its fold.

One thing’s for sure. There has to be some changes in the Phoenix roster this summer, and shore up that front line if they would want to win the title. And Garnett would be more than a pretty addition into this talented line-up.
