The Philippine National team romped its opponents by an average of 38.5 points in the FIBA-Asia qualifier, Southeast Asian Basketball Championships, held in Ratchaburi, Thailand. San Miguel-Pilipinas stamped its class against Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and host Thailand, easily thrashing every opponent.

The All-PBA team was represented by guards Jayjay Helterbrand, Mark Caguioa, Jimmy Alapag, Dondon Hontiveros and Renren Ritualo, forwards Danny Seigle, Kerby Raymundo, Ranidel de Ocampo, KG Canaleta and Enrico Villanueva, and centers Asi Taulava and Mick Pennisi.

However, coach Chot Reyes was extremely disappointed with the outcome of the tournament. They were unable to shoot well from the outside (a very important weapon in international tournaments), defend the quick-ball movement and slow start. They started trailing their opponents in every game.

For that, management will tinker on the roster, and may add guard Willie Miller, forward Kelly Williams or Fil-Am Gabe Norwood as possible replacements for non-performing players.
