Ginebra superstar guard Mark “the Spark” Caguioa had an all-around performance scoring 28 points, grabbing 9 rebounds and dishing out 7 assists, as the Ginebra Gin Kings exact revenge on the San Miguel Beermen, 92-87.
The Beermen won their first encounter, where Danny Seigle had 28 rebounds and 18 rebounds. And this time around, there’s no stopping “The Dynamite” once again. Seigle dished out another juggernaut performance, contributing 32 points, 16 rebounds and 2 blocks for the Beermen in a loosing cause.
Ginebra had their biggest lead at 88-80 with 43 seconds remaining after a Caguioa three and a Ronald Tubid short stab. It seems that the game has ended there as both teams struggled and the score remained still with 21 seconds remaining.
After a San Miguel timeout, rookie Gabby Espinas scored on alley-hoop inbound pass from veteran All-Star guard Olsen Racela. And Racela himself completed a three-point play after he stole the ball from Jayjay Helterbrand, cutting the lead down to three, 88-85, with 18 seconds remaining.
But that was the closest San Miguel could get. Helterbrand hit two free throws, and Beerman forward Wesley Gonzales turned the ball over in the ensuing play, after another San Miguel timeout.
Tubid added 18 points for Ginebra, in just his second game as a Gin King.
Racela added 15 points for San Miguel, which had their five game winning streak snapped. They now stand at 5-4. Ginebra, on the other hand, is at 6-3.
